A peaceful internet society starts at the tip of our fingers.
In addition to encouraging people, especially students, to post positive and meaningful comments to counter bullying and hateful messages that are posted on the internet, we have also created special comment pages on our website where messages related to tragic or catastrophic events around the world can be posted.
The first special comments page was established in February 2008 in response to the school shooting at Northern Illinois University that resulted in the deaths of five people. That first page was followed by a second page for the people of China following the Sichuan Earthquake in May of 2008.
The comments for those first two special comments pages were posted in Korean. In response to the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, we established a method, for Korean and other non-English speaking people to choose an English comment from a list of pre-written suggestions.
