Our Mission
Malicious comments and hate speech destroy souls, even end lives. Now, not only celebrities but also young adolescents are becoming increasingly affected as malicious comments are becoming ever more prevalent in the era of non-face-to-face interactions brought on by the pandemic. We're now at a serious point where we can't just sit on the sidelines.
Our mission is to become a movement that spreads positive energy to the world by practicing words and actions of support, consideration, not only for family, friends, and co-workers, but also netizens whom we’ve never met before.
How It Began
  • In 2007, Dr. Min Byoung-chul, a university professor in Seoul, learned that a Korean celebrity had been driven to take her own life because of malicious comments directed at her on the internet. The idea that malicious comments could end a life like that moved Dr. Min to seek a way to counterbalance the negative comments on the internet.
  • In an effort to achieve this, Dr. Min gave a homework assignment to his students at Chungang University in Seoul. Each of the 570 students in his classes were tasked with posting one positive comment on the websites of ten different celebrities where hateful comments were being posted. This resulted in over 5,700 positive comments being posted on the internet.
  • The Chosun newspaper in Seoul learned of Dr. Min’s assignment and published an article highlighting the student’s efforts. The article recognized the proactive response to the negative state of the internet. The Chosun article was followed by editorials recognizing the potential of positive comments.
  • In response to the encouragement he received, Dr. Min launched the Sunfull Movement on May 23, 2007 to promote civility in cyberspace through the posting of positive comments.
