Educators, lawyersand TVcelebrities yesterday launched a campaign to clean up onlinemessage boards.

The Sunple Movement, spearheaded by professor MinByoung-chul of Chung-angUniversity, will promote  

the postingof positive messages on internetbulletin boards and aims to protect victims of cyber bullying and abuse.

Local online bulletin boards often carry groundless allegations andmalicious comments.

Organizers urged the government and internet portals to expand theexisting real-name system for internet

 postings to prevent ill-intendedmessages, which are largely posed by anonymous internet users.

They also appealed for internet users and volunteers to participate in thecampaign, which will be led by  

a committee composed of students, celebrities and professionals in various fields.

Organizers emphasized the need to protect teenagers from negativeonline messages.

Koh Seung-duk, president of the Deokyoo Law Firm and a Sunpleexecutive committee member,  

will provide legal advice to victims ofmalicious internet postings.

"I hope my expertise in judicial system can promote the movement. I`llwork on devising a legal measure  

to help victims and protect their rightson a professional level." 

The Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine will give free online psychiatricconsultations and check-ups,  

and provide therapists and counselingservices.

Celebrities, including actor Ahn Sung-ki and comedian Kim Je-dong, willalso promote the campaign  

in films and on television. "Harmonious onlineculture cannot be established by force.  

Involve yourselves voluntarily forthe good cause," Ahn said.

Kim Je-dong said he decided to take part in order to build an onlineculture of healthy criticism  

and discussion. "When the compliment comesfrom a stranger, its effect is far bigger." 

Sun Yao, a Chinese panelist on "Girls` Talk," KBS entertainment show, said that she was often  

attacked by netizens because of politicaldifferences between Korea and China. 

 "It`s very hurtful when the peopleof your favorite country attack the country you come from," she said.

Dominique Noel, a Canadian exchange student at Yonsei University and a panelist on the show said  

even with nice messages, it is the hurtfulmessages that she remembers at the end of the day.

"Nice messages from people have been very encouraging. It all startsfrom accepting differences  

in different cultures," Noel said.
